Why line shopping matters

Sportsbooks don't all post the same number. On any given game one book might have a team at −3 (−110) while another has −2.5 (−115), or one hangs −110 while another offers −105. Those differences look small, but they are the cheapest edge in sports betting.

Price example: at −110 you need to win 52.4% of bets to break even. At −105 you only need 51.2%. Over a season of bets, that difference alone can be the gap between losing and winning.
Number example: in the NFL, about 1 in 7 games lands on exactly 3 points. Getting +3 instead of +2.5 turns a lot of those losses into pushes.

That's why we compare every play against multiple books, and why it pays to hold accounts at two or three sportsbooks. Our Live Odds page highlights the best price on each market so you can see where the value is before you bet.

How to use more than one sportsbook

  • Open two or three accounts where betting is legal in your state, so you can always take the best number.
  • Check the price before every bet — spreads, totals and moneylines move independently at each book.
  • Use new-user offers wisely — read the terms (odds minimums, bonus-bet rules) before you deposit.
  • Set limits — decide your unit size and bankroll in advance, and use each app's deposit and time limits.

FAQ

Why should I use more than one sportsbook?

Different books post different lines and prices. Holding two or three accounts lets you take the best number on every bet, which lowers the win rate you need to be profitable.

Which sportsbook has the best odds?

It changes game to game — no single book is best on every market. Compare prices across books before each bet; our Live Odds page shows the best available price for NFL, college football, MLB, NHL and WNBA.

What is juice or vig?

Juice (or vig) is the sportsbook's fee built into the odds. At −110 you risk $110 to win $100; the extra $10 is the book's margin. Lower juice, like −105, means a lower break-even win rate.

Is online sports betting legal in my state?

Legality depends on your state. Sportsbooks only accept accounts from states where they're licensed and verify your location before each bet. You must be 21+ (18+ where applicable).
