Top 20 college football programs by all-time wins

More than a century of Saturdays boils down to one number: total wins. It's the closest thing college football has to a program's résumé — and the top of the list has barely changed in decades.

Michigan sits alone at the top with 1,022 all-time victories, the first program ever to cross four figures. Ohio State and Alabama round out a Big Ten–SEC trio at the summit, with Notre Dame and Texas tied close behind.

A few things jump out. The Big Ten's blue bloods — Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska — dominate the top eight, a reminder of how much early-era football was played in the Midwest. The SEC's presence (Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, LSU, Auburn, Texas A&M) reflects the modern era's powerhouse.

All-time wins tell you who's been good for a long time. What they can't tell you is who's got the edge this Saturday — that's a different question, and it's the one our model exists to answer.
